Applications : Writer - Playing with Images
Inserting Images

Time to play with some images, Right Click on the Linux Logo above and choose Copy Image, then Right Click in your document below Resize, Cropping, Wrapping and Choose Paste

Say hello to Tux, the Linux logo, he is a little on the large size so Click on him and then Click on any of his Four Corners otherwise you will distort him!! and Drag In to resize him down

Now to Crop out the text GNU Linux, Right Click Tux and choose Crop, Drag the Crop Icon up past the text, that's better.

Each time you Click on an image the Image Toolbar pops up and the first Icon is Anchor which sets what the image is attached to..
- The Page: The image will stick to that page no matter what happens to the document before it.
- To Paragraph and To Character: Best options to use as this will allow you to position the image anywhere.
- As Character: I never use this option as the image seems to stick to the left of the page and gives me very little control over it
Click on the second heading Gallery and Order and then click on Tux, the Image Toolbar pops up, Click the Anchor Icon and Select To Paragraph (It probably is selected already), then Click the Align Icon and choose Align Middle to Anchor, the centre of Tux should now be in line with the text, try Align Top to Anchor and Align Bottom to Anchor to see what that looks like.

You can drag the Anchor symbol up and down the page and Tux will move with it.
The Icons between Anchor and Align are Wrapping, this is how text and other objects reacts with an image, by default the newly inserted image is set to the third wrap option Optimal Page Wrap, that is text will wrap itself around the image.
The First Wrap Option is Wrap Off, Click on that to push the Second Heading Gallery and Order below Tux and then Click on the Align Drop Down and choose Centred to centre him on the page

Lets throw some text into the mix, Copy the paragraph below consisting of a sort of Top 50 Linux Distros for November 2020 as listed in Distrowatch. Check out Distrowatch Reviews of Linux Distro's

Paste the list below Tux and increase the text to 14pts, too much space is been used, we need to wrap the text around Tux.
With the 2nd Wrap Option Page Wrap the text will wrap around Tux as you move him, but he will insist on butting in between the Linux Distro and its very tasteful stars, so first Align Tux Left and then click on the 4th Wrap Option Wrap Right

If you want Tux on the right, Choose to Align Right and the 5th Wrap Option Wrap Left. Try the 6th Wrap Option, it will Cause the Tux to sit on top of the text,
There is one more Wrap Option not listed on the toolbar and that is Contour, Right Click Tux then Wrap»Contour.

The text will now wrap tightly around the image, I Centre Aligned both the Pasted Text and Tux and resized Tux to make sure none of the text escaped from him.

You can use Writer to create your own graphics, so on the Menu Bar Click View»Gallery

In the Gallery Side panel I went to Shapes, dragged a circle onto the page below Gallery and Order and I adjusted its colour in the Frame Toolbar that popped up. I also dragged a Green and Blue rectangle type graphics onto the page.
I arranged them like the Order Icons and tried each one to see the effects

After all that hard work I wanted to Group the three separate objects into one so I held down the Shift Key clicked on the first, then the second, then the third and clicked on the Group Icon.
The other Group Options are to Enter into a Group or Ungroup

To show that the three are now one I inserted a Caption, One for All and All for one
and choose None for the Category.

I gave the caption a border and Clicking on that border I could drag the Group anywhere on the page.
Our title page needs a bit of a lift, you could select the text Writer and do some serious formatting but a better option is to use Writers Fontwork to create a logo, so delete the text Writer.
On the Menu Bar Click Insert»Fontwork and Click a Font Style from the Gallery, I choose POW and then Click OK.

The logo in now on your page so to change the text Double Click it, the current text appears in the background, Delete the text and type in Writer
and then Click away from the logo, it now says Writer.

Click on the logo again to adjust, I changed the background bitmap to paper in keeping with Writer been a Word Processor, printed page, get the connection, oh never mind.
